Palissade Cord by Ronan Bouroullec

HAY introduces the Palissade Cord, a new addition to its outdoor furniture range and a fresh take on the Bouroullec brothers’ Palissade Collection. Handwoven in cord, it offers a softer, more relaxed aesthetic.

Inspired by plastic woven chairs known from the '60s, this new Palissade model offers a contemporary take on an outdoor classic. Retaining the same design language as the original Palissade, the recycled polyester cord is handwoven onto the steel frame, adding a softer look to the series. "This is something that has been worked on from the very beginning of Palissade," says Rolf Hay, Founder and Creative Director of HAY Furniture & Lighting. "By wrapping the cord around a steel structure, it keeps the profile unchanged, but it adds texture. It's almost like an upholstered version."

As with the original collection, Palissade Cord is meant to integrate effortlessly into any natural landscape or urban environment – it is available in colours that match the existing variants. "From the start, it was a conscious decision to choose colours that blend into their environment," says Hay, making the full range a fitting choice for gardens, urban environments, and more.

Palissade's clean, graphic lines and gently curved form have made it one of HAY's most successful collections since it was first launched in 2016. Made from galvanised steel, it is practical, resistant, and loved both for its pared-back simplicity and for its instantly recognisable design. "The most difficult design challenge is finding that balance," says Hay. "The Bouroullecs manage this beautifully."

The Palissade Cord collection includes a dining armchair, a dining bench, a lounge chair, a lounge sofa, and a chaise longue that are perfect for relaxing, eating, and socialising in a wide range of outdoor spaces.
